Listed below are some recent cases of prosecution and convictions of dog owners
whose reckless disregard resulted in a fatal attack on a human.
R. Hostelter was convicted of Criminal Negligent Homicide after his two Rottweilers escaped from his yard
and mauled his elderly neighbor to death in 1996. (Tennessee)

S. Davidson was convicted of Murder 2nd after her three Rottweilers escaped from their yard and mauled 10-year-
old Christopher Wilson to death at a school bus stop in 1997. (Kansas)

J. McTaggart & S. Randolph were convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter after 3-year-old Dakota Randolph
was attacked by two Rottweilers kept in the backyard. The boy lay dying in the yard for over two hours while his mother and her
boyfriend slept off a drug induced stupor in 1997.

J. Chiavetta was convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter after two Mixed breed dogs that he was caring for
escaped from the yard and mauled 10-year-old Cash Carson to death in 2000  (California)

W. Newton and J. Latvaitis were convicted of Criminal Recklessness after a Census worker entered their
property and was mauled to death by a pack of 10-20 dogs owned by the couple in 2000. (Indiana)

M. Knoller & R. Noel were convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter after their Presa Canario dog mauled their
neighbor  to death in the hallway of their apartment in 2001. (California)

C. Smith was convicted of Manslaughter after his three Pit Bulls mauled to death a neighbor that was walking past
his property in 2001. (Arkansas)

C. Schneider was convicted of Manslaughter after his two Rottweiler/Pug mixed breed dogs escaped from his
yard and mauled his 6-year-old neighbor to death in 2002. (California)

W. Hardy & S. McCracken were convicted of Recklessly Causing Harm to a Child and (Misd) Child
Neglect when their two adult Rottweilers & 4 sub-adult dogs attacked and killed a young girl that was visiting at their home
where there were no adult supervision in 2002. (Wisconsin)

L. Laster was convicted of Reckless Homicide after her chained Wolf-dog attacked and killed a young boy that
ventured near the dog in 2002. (Kentucky)

T. Swindler was convicted of Child Endangerment & Abuse after her young son climbed into the pen of a
Rottweiler kept in their backyard in 2003.  (Missouri)

J. Batey was convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter when one of the children she was babysitting  was mauled
to death in the yard by her Pit Bull in 2003. (California)
